Boundaries are the official overall ones published by each board for the June series shown. Future boundaries are set after the exams, so a range across years is the honest guide.

Grade calculator questions
How accurate is the grade calculator?
The boundaries are the official ones each exam board published for the June series shown, so the calculation itself is exact. What it cannot know is next summer’s boundaries, which are set after the papers are marked. That is why we show your marks against several years: the range is the honest answer.
Why do grade boundaries change every year?
Boundaries are set after each exam so that a grade means the same standard from year to year. A harder paper gets lower boundaries, an easier one higher. The papers change; the standard behind a grade 4 or a grade 7 does not.
Can I use this for a mock exam?
Yes, if the mock was a full set of three past or practice papers for your board and tier. School mocks are sometimes shortened or mixed, in which case the grade here is a guide rather than a prediction.
What is the “allowed grade 3” on Higher tier?
Higher tier is graded 9 to 4, with a safety net: a student who falls a little short of a 4 can be awarded a 3. Below that, the result is a U. Foundation tier is graded 5 to 1.
What does a grade 4 or 5 mean?
A 4 is a standard pass and a 5 is a strong pass. Without at least a 4 in Maths, students in England carry on studying it after 16. Most sixth forms ask for a 6 or 7 to take A-Level Maths.
I know my total, not my paper marks. Does that work?
Yes. Switch to “Total” and enter the overall mark. The grade depends only on the total across the three papers.
