Physics Tutor | 1-to-1 Online Tuition for GCSE & A-Level

Looking for a physics tutor for your child? Richmond Tutoring gives students in the UK at GCSE and A-Level 1-to-1 online lessons with a physics specialist — the ideas, the maths inside them and the practical questions, on your child’s own exam board. £36 a lesson, no contract, and the first 45-minute lesson is free.

Physics Tutoring for GCSE and A-Level

GCSE Physics is about using the right equation and explaining it; A-Level adds harder maths, linked topics and a separate practical endorsement. Choose your child’s level for the detail.

Why Richmond

Why Parents Choose Us for Physics

A physics mark can be lost on the idea, the maths or the practical. The first lesson finds which one it is for your child.

  1. A tutor who teaches physics

Your child is taught by someone who teaches physics every week, on your child’s own specification, and who knows where each board’s papers differ, from AQA’s Paper 3 options to OCR Gateway’s 90-mark papers.

  2. Units and rearranging, every time

A speed in km/h, a mass in grams, a current in milliamps: many physics marks go on a missed conversion or a slip in the rearranging. We use one written method — quantities, equation, SI units, rearrange, substitute, answer with unit — until it is automatic.

  3. Graphs and practicals as exam questions

Velocity–time graphs, I–V characteristics, gradients and areas, uncertainties: physics papers test the practical work through data. We practise reading and drawing graphs on the board’s own questions, so the required practical marks become dependable.

  4. Try a full lesson first, free

The first lesson is a real 45-minute physics class and you can sit in. A short note follows every lesson after that, there is no contract, and if we do not think we can help, we will say so.

Results

Where Our Results Stand

Mathsis where every result we have published so far comes from

That is 11 GCSE Maths grade 9s since 2024 (2 in 2024, 6 in 2025 and 3 in 2026) and an A* in A-Level Maths, each listed by student and checked against the slip.

We have not yet published a physics grade, and we will not borrow the maths figures to imply one. When physics results arrive they go on the results page under the same rules.

What Parents Say

Google reviews, quoted exactly as written.

“My son who is in his first year of A levels is really finding him helpful. He is an excellent tutor.”

Emma HoganA-Level · Google review

“He teaches so well, not too fast and not too slow, and I understand everything.”

Sholpan AlmatyMaths · Google review

“With a lot of experience teaching many students, he knows exactly how to prepare students for GCSEs and A Levels. He is by far the best maths teacher I have ever had.”

FAQs

How much does a physics tutor cost?

Richmond Tutoring charges £36 for a 60-minute one-to-one online physics lesson, at GCSE or A-Level, with no contract or placement fee. The first 45-minute lesson is free.

Does my child need a physics tutor?

Usually when one of these is true: they understand the lesson but cannot do the calculations, equations have to be rearranged and it falls apart, the required practical questions keep losing marks, or a good GCSE grade has turned into a disappointing Year 12 one. If you are not sure, book the free demo class. If we do not think your child needs lessons, we will tell you.

How much maths is there in physics?

A lot, and it is fixed by Ofqual: at least 30% of the marks in GCSE Physics and at least 40% in A-Level Physics use maths. That is rearranging and combining equations, units, standard form, graphs and, at A-Level, trigonometry and logarithms. We teach the maths in its physics context, at the point the physics needs it. If the maths itself is the problem, maths tutoring can run alongside.

Can physics be taught well online?

Yes, because the part that is examined is on paper. Students carry out the practicals in school, and the written papers then ask about the method, the measurements and the uncertainties. Diagrams, derivations and calculations all work very well on a shared whiteboard, and every lesson is recorded so revision is just watching it back.

Is GCSE Physics the same as the physics in Combined Science?

The ideas are the same, but GCSE Physics — part of Triple Science — is a GCSE of its own, with more content and more depth. Combined Science covers the core physics as a third of a double award. We teach both. For Combined Science, see GCSE science tutoring, where one tutor covers all three sciences.

Is there a physics tutor near me, or is it all online?

Every lesson is online and 1-to-1, so your child has the same physics tutor wherever you live in the UK, with no travel. Lessons are live video calls on a shared whiteboard, where the tutor and your child draw the same free-body diagrams, circuits and graphs and work through calculations together. Practicals are done in school; we teach the physics behind them and the exam questions on them. Most of our families are in and around south-west London.

Do you help with the GCSE physics equation sheet and required practicals?

Yes, and they come up in most GCSE lessons. Students are given an equation sheet in the exam, so we practise finding the right equation quickly, rearranging it and getting the units right. The required practicals (10 on AQA GCSE Physics) are taught as exam questions: method, variables, results and errors. The GCSE physics tutoring page explains both in more detail.

Which courses and exam boards do you teach?

GCSE Physics on Pearson Edexcel (1PH0), AQA (8463) and OCR Gateway (J249), and A-Level Physics on AQA (7408), OCR Physics A (H556), OCR Physics B: Advancing Physics (H557) and Pearson Edexcel (9PH0). Our focus is the UK specifications, but we teach International GCSE too. We don’t teach International A-Level or IB.
