“My daughter has been learning with him for the past few months, and the improvement in her skills has been truly noticeable. He explains concepts in a simple and understandable way, making even difficult topics easier to grasp.”
Chemistry Tutor | 1-to-1 Online Tuition for GCSE & A-Level
Looking for a chemistry tutor for your child? Richmond Tutoring gives students in the UK at GCSE and A-Level 1-to-1 online lessons with a chemistry specialist — moles and calculations, equations, organic chemistry and the practical questions, on your child’s own exam board. £36 a lesson, no contract, and the first 45-minute lesson is free.

Chemistry Tutoring for GCSE and A-Level
Two different courses, two different jobs. Pick the one your child is on to see exactly how we teach it.

GCSE Chemistry Tutoring
GCSE Chemistry asks students to think on two scales at once: what they can see in a flask, and what the particles are doing to cause it. Most marks go missing where those two meet — in moles, in equations, and in the explanations that link them.
In lessons, we focus on helping students to:
- Understand what a mole is, then use it with confidence in every calculation
- Write and balance equations, from word equations to ionic and half equations
- Turn the required practicals and six-mark questions into reliable marks
20%of GCSE Chemistry marks, at least, use maths

A-Level Chemistry Tutoring
A-Level Chemistry takes the GCSE ideas and asks why, and how much. Physical, inorganic and organic chemistry each have their own way of thinking, the calculations get longer, and the papers expect students to connect all three in a single question.
In lessons, we focus on helping students to:
- Make the jump from GCSE, with amount of substance and bonding secure from the first term
- Understand organic mechanisms rather than memorise them, so unfamiliar molecules stop being frightening
- Handle equilibria, rates, energetics and pH calculations on their own board’s papers
20%of A-Level Chemistry marks, at least, use maths

Why Parents Choose Us for Chemistry
Chemistry is a subject built in layers, and one weak layer brings down everything above it. We find that layer, and build the lessons around it.
-
A chemistry specialist
Your child is taught by someone who teaches chemistry every week, on their own specification — not a general science tutor working a page ahead of the syllabus.
-
The particles first, the rules second
Chemistry goes wrong when students learn rules without the particles underneath. We teach what is actually happening, so equations, mechanisms and trends make sense instead of needing to be memorised.
-
Calculations that stay correct
Moles, concentrations and yields are where most chemistry marks are lost. We practise them step by step against the board’s own mark schemes, until the method is automatic.

The first lesson is a real 45-minute class and you can sit in. A short note follows every lesson after that, there is no contract, and if we do not think we can help, we will say so.
Our Results Speak
9s and A*sacross our GCSE and A-Level students
Our GCSE students have earned 11 grade 9s since 2024 — 2 in 2024, 6 in 2025 and 3 in 2026.
At A-Level, our published results include an A*.
Every grade we publish is checked against a results slip first.

What Parents Say
Google reviews, quoted exactly as written.
“One of my children struggles with attention and our tutor is always looking for different methods to keep him engaged and motivated, and provides regular feedback after each lesson.”
“Very professional, well organised, lessons adapted to my daughter’s needs, explains concepts in a very clear way. She feels more confident.”

FAQs
How much does a chemistry tutor cost?
Richmond Tutoring charges £36 for a 60-minute one-to-one online chemistry lesson, at GCSE or A-Level, with no contract or placement fee. The first 45-minute lesson is free.
Does my child need a chemistry tutor?
Usually when one of these is true: moles and calculations have stopped making sense, equations cannot be balanced or written from a description, organic chemistry has become a list of reactions to memorise, or a good GCSE grade has turned into a disappointing Year 12 one. If you are not sure, book the free demo class. If we do not think your child needs lessons, we will tell you.
Why do so many students struggle with moles?
Because moles are often taught as a formula to learn rather than as a way of counting particles. The method then collapses as soon as a question takes two steps or is worded differently. We teach what a mole actually is first, and build reacting masses, concentrations, titrations and yield on top of it. At A-Level the same idea runs through equilibria, rates and energetics, so it has to be secure.
How much maths is there in chemistry?
At least 20% of the marks in both GCSE Chemistry and A-Level Chemistry use maths, a floor set by Ofqual. That is moles and reacting masses, percentages and yield, standard form and significant figures, and at A-Level, logarithms for pH and the rearranging in rate and equilibrium expressions. We teach it in its chemistry context. If the maths itself is the problem, maths tutoring can run alongside.
Can chemistry be taught well online?
Yes, because the part that is examined is on paper. Students carry out the practicals in school, and the written papers then ask about the method, the observations and the results. Equations, mechanisms and calculations all work very well on a shared whiteboard, and every lesson is recorded so revision is just watching it back.
Which courses and exam boards do you teach?
GCSE Chemistry on Pearson Edexcel (1CH0), AQA (8462) and OCR Gateway (J248), and A-Level Chemistry on AQA (7405), OCR Chemistry A (H432), OCR Chemistry B: Salters (H433) and Pearson Edexcel (9CH0). Our focus is the UK specifications, but we teach International GCSE too. We don’t teach International A-Level or IB.
